The Heath DETECTO PAK OVD is a portable flame-ionization detector utilized for detecting volatile organic compounds. The DETECTO PAK OVD uses a 40% hydrogen/60% nitrogen fuel source for the flame in the ionization chamber. A positive draw intake pump within the instrument draws a sample into the chamber. Any VOC in the flame and combustion process releases ions from the carbon atoms in the VOC molecule. The released ions are attracted to a positively charged plate. These collected ions establish an electric current that is stabilized and transmitted to an analog meter.
The meter responds to the VOC quantity in the sample, from 0.2 ppm to 14K ppm. The amount of VOC in the sample is directly related to the ions collected and hence the meter reading indicates the quantity of VOC in the sample.The unit has five sensitivity ranges (10, 50, 100, 1000, and 10K ppm) that allow the user to identify the quantities detected. The instrument is rated intrinsically safe by ETL Testing Laboratories for use in Hazardous Locations - Class 1, Division 1, Groups A, B, C, and D
